Well Visits

Well child health supervision check-ups

Please feel free to print this page as a reminder. Since the office opens appointments two weeks in advance, most parents put reminders for the whole first 3 years on their calendar. It’s best to mark the date two weeks before each of these appointments, to remind yourself to schedule the check-ups. That way, you won’t miss any check-ups!

Well visits are:

1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 2 years old, 2 1/2 years old, 3 years old and yearly thereafter.

All well visits are important! Please do not skip any of them.

Each well visit has its own prevention measures and topic to discuss, so please do no miss any!

We will see two children at once -- please schedule a 45 minute appointment for a well visit, using one of their names and note that both children are to be seen in the "reason" box. For larger families, if possible, please break them up into two visits, or choose a slower day, such as a Wednesday or Thursday, to book all of the children together.

  • How often should I come in with my child?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a regular schedule of visits, and Dr. Lieberman endorses this schedule. Important safety, health, and development topics are covered at each visit, based on the age of the child. Missing a visit will mean missing those topics! If for some reason you do not wish to come to the office at each of the recommended well-visits, please discuss this with Dr. Lieberman before deciding if she should be your child’s pediatrician.

  • Well Visit Schedule

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children have well visits for preventive health care on the following schedule:

    • 1 Week
    • 1 Month
    • 2 Months
    • 4 Months
    • 6 Months
    • 9 Months
    • 12 Months
    • 15 Months
    • 18 Months
    • 2 Years
    • 2 and 1/2 Years
    • Yearly Thereafter
  • Lead and Iron Levels

When your child is 9 months and 18 months, they will need a screening for iron and lead levels. This can be done at the time of your visit, via fingerstick.

  • Fluoride Varnish

These visits can be scheduled separately, every 3-6 months after the first tooth erupts. If you are seeing a dentist every 6 months, come to us on the alternate 6 months for varnish. If you have not seen a dentist yet, come to us every 3 months until you do. We recommend seeing a dentist starting at one year old. Read about fluoride varnish here.
